What the Wednesday - On a highway to...
|
Last weekend Burlington, Vermont, received its largest single snowfall in recorded history.

Recorded history goes back a long ways, so this was a big deal. When all was said and done we received more than 32 inches (32.9 inches) in town, and windy conditions made it seem like way more in some spots. Burlington usually gets a lot of snow, but even for us, this was a lot (obviously) and sometimes a lot of snow makes people go a little crazy.

This has absolutely nothing to do with snowboarding, but during the tail end of the storm, two dudes were arrested for taking turns towing each other behind a car down the highway. Pretty extreme. We looked all over but couldn’t find any photos, so the above is an artist rendition of what it may looked like. Click here for the official news on how it went down.

In some real snowboard related news, the second Grand Prix of the season is currently underway at Mammoth in California. Yesterday was halfpipe qualifiers... Check full results and some more photos here.
Misty Nug: Norwegian Asle Stand went 82.9 mph on a sled in 1982.

Man... maybe I'm showing my age, but when I was a kid living in a small hicktown, we called that "tubing". Old tire, rope, & a 4x4. Hot dawg! (Never did it at 1am though... or anytime in the dark for that matter)

Okay, I tell no lie. I read the newspaper article, & it reminds me of an old friend of mine back in my hometown. We worked at Carlos O' Kelly's (a restaurant), he was a line cook & I was a dishpig. Anyway, we'd take the big platters they use for waitressing & such & we'd basically "skimboard" on them in the back of the kitchen after mopping the floors sometimes just for fun. One night though, when it was winter, we got the idea to do it outside of course. But this friend of mine thought he was something like Eminiem on PCP or something on a regular basis so he just always had to outdo everybody no matter what it was, self-damage not even considered. Basically, when it was time for his break, he talked somebody into towing him behind their 4x4 truck in the parking lot like he was wakeboarding or something. There was only a couple of inches or so on the ground & it was funny as heck watching him slamming over & over into the ground. This was before Jackass, Bam, & all that crap took over too. He was one of those guys that had to feel pain just to know he was alive, ya' know what I'm sayin'? Anyway, just fun remembering some stupid sh*t sometimes, ya' know? Later people, peace!
